About us

Welcome to Adivasimitra


Adivasimitra Welfare Society, established in 1996, is a non-profit, non-governmental organization rooted in the tribal heartlands of Paderu, Andhra Pradesh. Dedicated to the socio-political empowerment of Adivasi (Tribal) communities, Adivasimitra has been instrumental in facilitating access to basic services, securing entitlements, land rights, education, health, and social welfare and security schemes for Adivasis.

Our Motivation
Founded by six passionate Adivasi youth, Adivasimitra emerged from a deep-seated commitment to address the marginalized status and rights of Adivasi communities. The organization seeks to be the authentic voice for a community grappling with conflicts related to land, forest, inadequate education, and broader development issues.

Vision
Our vision is to ensure the accessibility of basic amenities such as education, health, nutrition, safe drinking water, and income generation for all tribal communities living in isolation. We aim to enable the full benefits of acts and programs, such as the Forest Rights Act (2006), Panchayat Raj Act (PESA), and NREGAS Program.

Mission
Our mission is to strive for the social, economic, legal, cultural, educational, and health empowerment and improvements through the facilitation of active participation and involvement of Tribal Community Members and Tribal Community Institutions.

Objectives
Objectives of Adivasimitra Welfare Society

I.Social & Cultural
1. Preservation and Promotion of Adivasi Culture: Work diligently for the preservation and promotion of Adivasi culture, including customs, languages, and traditions.

2. Youth and Children Development: Undertake activities focused on the overall development and leadership building of Adivasi youth and children.

3. Awareness Building and Cultural Protection: Create awareness through various mediums such as writing, publishing, and organizing cultural programs to lobby and protect tribal rights and heritage.

4. Forest Protection and Regeneration: Promote traditional sustainable forest protection and regeneration practices among Adivasis, aiming for conservation of forests and natural resources.

5. Protection of Environment and Ecology: Strive for the protection of the environment and ecology of the hills in the Eastern Ghats.

II. Economic Improvement
1. Enhancement of Agriculture, Horticulture, and Occupations: Implement activities to enhance agriculture, horticulture, and other occupations of Adivasis through income generation, extension services, and other enterprises.

2. Promotion of Tribal Cooperatives:  Promote tribal cooperatives for the processing and marketing of Non-Timber Forest Produce (NTFP) and agricultural products, involving tribal farmers, women's groups, and youth groups.

3. Eco Friendly Tourism: Support and promote ecologically friendly and sustainable tourism programs initiated by Adivasi groups.

4. Technical Expertise and Extension Services: Facilitate the promotion of technical expertise and extension services for various economic activities.

5. Awareness Creation on Economic Issues: Create awareness among Adivasis about their economic problems and assist them in finding better alternate economic plans.

6. Promotion of Local Economic Institutions: Promote the establishment of locally sustainable and self-reliant economic institutions within Adivasi communities.

III. Legal Improvement
1. Awareness on Fundamental Rights and Constitutional Safeguards: Work towards creating awareness among Adivasis for the protection of their fundamental rights and constitutional safeguards.

2. Legal Rights Workshops and Seminars: Organize workshops, seminars, and training programs on legal rights for Adivasi people.

3. Judicial System Assistance: Provide support and assistance to Adivasi people in approaching the judicial system at all levels within the constitution.

4. Democratic Striving for Land and Legal Rights: Assist Adivasis in democratically striving for land and legal rights within the constitutional framework.

IV.Educational Improvement
1. Education Support for Adivasi Children: Help and encourage Adivasi children to receive education, either through government institutions or by establishing its own schools or educational institutions.

2. Promotion of Girls' Education: Work towards increasing the education of girl children among Adivasis.

3. Educational Workshops and Seminars: Organize workshops, seminars, cultural and training programs, and study circles to improve education among Adivasi youth and children.

4. Documentation of Indigenous Knowledge: Document indigenous knowledge systems of the Adivasis.

V. Health Improvement
1. Improvement of Health Status: Work towards improving the overall health status of Adivasis, with a special emphasis on the health of women and children.

2. Health Facilities and Practices: Assist in providing primary health and medical facilities to Adivasi villages.
- Promote traditional health practices and knowledge among the Adivasis.

3. Referral Services and Medical Camps: Assist in receiving referral services, conduct medical camps, and build awareness in health and hygiene, with a focus on preventive aspects and community management of health.

4. Safe Drinking Water: Strive for providing safe drinking water in Adivasi villages.


These objectives embody the commitment of Adivasimitra Welfare Society to the holistic development, empowerment, and well-being of Adivasi communities. 

Our Donors & Partners in our efforts
Adivasimitra's journey began in 1996 as an independent tribal organization focused on land and forest conflicts, education, and all-round development. Formally registered under the Andhra Pradesh Public Societies Registration Act in 1996, Adivasimitra received fellowship support from Samata, a national NGO, between 1996 and 1998, working diligently on tribal rights.

From 1998 to 2010, Adivasimitra partnered with CRYNET for improving living conditions, building a team of 12 staff engaged in gender mainstreaming, community mobilization, and livelihood enhancement. In 2011, the organization made an agreement with NEG-FIRE, New Delhi, for Mother Tongue-based Education in PVTG villages.

Currently, Adivasimitra collaborates with BFTW (Bread for the World) for Sustainable Empowerment of Adivasi Community and has joined the AP Network project of BfdW for Culture and Education in 2019. In 2021, Adivasimitra collaborated with Ajim Premji Philanthropic Initiative for Covid Vaccination.
